kitchen incubator

During the pandemic as restaurants and catering companies faltered the MLK Kitchen incubator participants were able to shift their business models and partner with MLKEDC and City Commissioner Keon Hardemon to address the food insecurity facing our senior community.

Within a week of the shutter inplace order the kitchen incubator began providing hot nutritious meals to our seniors as lunch programs offered at parks and other senior centers were ordered closed.

The program provided 1,500 meals per week creating more than thirty new jobs.

• Decrease in start-up cost (Property/Rental,equipment, insurance)
• Certified for food production (Manufacturing for packaged goods)

wheels to work

MLK Wheels to Work was developed in partnership with the City of Miami's Anti-Poverty initiative to empower the community by providing reliable transportation to individuals residing and working within District 5 experiencing a transportation hardship.

PROGRAM BENEFITS:

• Provides safe/reliable transportation without having to qualify through traditional credit worthiness scales
• No hefty down payments
• Covers car insurance cost for the first year of the program
• Requires participants to contribute to the promotion of Liberty City through community service.

Holiday giveaways

MLK EDC, in partnership with community stakeholders,provides holiday packages to support families, assisting in minimizing the stress and financial burden the holiday season can be for underserved families.

2020 was no exception MLKEDC provided 200 Families with gift cards to Aid with holiday meals.

DISTRICT FACADE PROGRAM

As a designated Community Based Organization (CBO), MLKEDC administered the City of Miami’s District 5 commercial façade program designated to restore and rehabilitate the façade exterior of eligible commercial and industrial properties within the Liberty City area. These façade improvements are visible from commercial corridors intended to revitalize the economic wellness and aestheticpresentation of local businesses in the community. More than ten (10) businesses received assistance.
